After junior Alicia Hawley received the 2009 PRSA Kathleen Kelly scholarship, the department received the following letter:
I was delighted to learn recently that the PRSA Maryland Chapter awarded the 2009 Kathleen Kelly Scholarship to Ms. Alicia Hawley of Stevenson University.
First, I am honored that the Maryland Chapter continues to support this worthy scholarship, which recognizes – and encourages – outstanding undergraduate students who plan to enter the public relations profession. A casual Internet investigation showed that Ms. Mason co-chaired the 2009 Education Committee and chairs that committee this year, Ms. LaChapelle is the chapter’s 2010 President, and Ms. Imm is a member of the Board of Directors and liaison to the Education Committee. My sincere thanks to you and to other chapter leaders.
My Internet “surfing” also revealed that Ms. Hawley is an excellent award recipient of whom the chapter – and her school – can be proud. I enjoyed reading about her and seeing her photo with Ms. Mason and Prof. Stephanie Verni, a faculty member in Stevenson University’s Department of Business Communication. I have copied Prof. Verni and the department chair, Prof. Chip Rouse, on this message to thank them for their fine work and to ask them to forward my congratulations to Ms. Hawley… I want her to know that I am proud of her selection. I hope we have a chance to meet one day. In the meantime, I wish her the best in her educational endeavors and much success in her public relations career.
Sincerely,
Kathleen S. Kelly, Ph.D., APR, Fellow PRSA
Professor, Department of Public Relations

This is wonderful! I am so proud of Alicia. During my internship last spring, I had the opportunity to attend the PRSA Maryland board meetings and events with my internship supervisor, Erika Murray, who was the president of the PRSA Maryland Chapter at the time. It was a wonderful experience and I remember learning about this scholarship.
Congrats again Alicia!! This speaks volumes about the faculty and students of the SU Biz Comm. department!
