Dr. Heather Harris presented her research, “A Critical Examination of How Undergraduate Women in the United States and Canada Effectively Use Affirming Communication With Their Romantic Partners,” to a group of interested student and faculty members on Friday, May 8.  A research grant from the summer of 2009 propelled Dr. Harris’ research.

Members of the Villager staff finished off the last issue of the year with their annual send-off of the graduating seniors. Dinner at Chili’s provided the setting for gifts, flowers, and recollections of the year in print. Eleven seniors on the staff will be graduating on May 21: Liz Brooks, Jordan Dependahl, Kristen Fersch, Laura Ford, Mike Gustowarow, Ally Levin,  Sarah Moelter, Kayla Rosage, Maya Shipley, Stephanie Wheeler and Lauren Zegowitz.

Congratulations to all the BusCom-ers who were recently named All-Capital Athletic Conference players. Mustang senior Mike Gustowarow in men’s lacrosse was named to the CAC second team. Two  members of the Stevenson University women’s lacrosse team were also selected. Senior Lauren Zegowitz was named to the first team while junior Megan Weiss was chosen for the second team.Way to go, everyone!

Congratulations to BusCom-ers Jessica Swing and Nick Farano who won the recent Student Government Association president and vice-president seats, respectively. We’re all very proud of our high-profile pols!

BusCom majors gathered on Thursday evening, April 29, for an end-of-the-term picnic of pit beef and chicken catered by Shorty’s and enjoyed by all.

Working in the offices of Chasney and Company, Inc., under the supervision of owner Peter Chasney (shown below), senior Lindsay Dorney has been introduced to office management skills and the bidding process in the area of commercial mechanical contracting. Learning a whole new vocabulary and perfecting her interpersonal and telephone skills was an interesting challenge for Lindsay.

Senior Kayla Rosage has nearly finished her internship with Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies, under the supervision of Program Manager Vanessa Johnson and CFO Michael Gigliotti, pictured below with Kayla. The Greenbelt, Maryland, company provides “high quality support in the areas of Engineering, Science, Project Management and Information Technology,” according to the company Web site. Kayla’s focus has been in the area of communication, though she has also interfaced with finance.

Class of 2009 graduate Brian Myers has left his job at the Census Bureau to take on a new challenge as Director of Stewardship at the Lance Armstrong Foundation in Austin, Texas.  Brian’s communication skills, his commitment to service, and his enthusiasm for working with people landed him the highly competitive job with the foundation started by athlete Lance Armstrong. The mission of the foundation is to “unite people to fight cancer believing that unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything.” Congratulations, Brian!
